Transferring balances, a viable option to managing credit card debt

With so many credit card promos, installment options and perks and privileges offered by banks today—credit card spending has become more convenient for consumers, with big-ticket purchases becoming more accessible than ever.

But what many tend to overlook is that interest rates for different purchases accumulate and can bulk up their credit card bills. Paying just the minimum, or even a little more than the minimum, can result to additional charges, making debt unmanageable.

According to Bank of Commerce, one of the country’s most progressive banks with products and services that offer superior banking experience, transferring balances has become a widely accepted and viable option for those wanting to better manage their credit card payments.

In much the same way that large corporations restructure their liabilities to access lower interest rates and better payment terms, individuals can also restructure their credit card debts so that paying them becomes more manageable.

Bank of Commerce has introduced the Balance Transfer promo, which allows cardholders to transfer their credit card balances from other banks to their Bank of Commerce MasterCard. The Balance Transfer promo is designed to help ease payments for cardholders and allow them to create a healthier cardholder profile.

Bank of Commerce’s Balance Transfer promo allows the transfer of credit card balances that are equal to, or less than the cardholders’ outstanding balance with other banks. Any amount over the minimum 20,000 and within the cardholder’s available credit limit will qualify.

The monthly add-on rate is a low 0.49% for 36 months and Bank of Commerce MasterCard Balance Transfer applications can also be approved in as fast as 24 hours.

For more information, visit any Bank of Commerce branch or call their Customer Service hotline at (02) 632-2265.

Bank of Commerce rolls out Peso TD with higher interest earnings

Bank of Commerce, one of the country’s progressive banks, has rolled out a new time deposit product that offers interest rates at a premium compared to regular savings and time deposit accounts.

Dubbed Future Secure Time Deposit, the product affords investors various options to achieve a higher yield that is comparable to mutual funds.

Unlike other investment products which absorb risks related to market fluctuations, Future Secure Time Deposit is in a more secure position as it provides a fixed interest and the principal is intact. Furthermore, it is insured of up to P500,000 only by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC).

The product is aimed at depositors looking for peace of mind and security when it comes to placing their money in a long-term investment, as well as in providing a steady cash flow having a fixed interest credited quarterly to a settlement account.

For a minimum of P50,000, depositors can choose to invest for three (3) years or five (5) years.

Bank of Commerce added that Future Secure Time Deposit is ideal for saving up for retirement, travel, vacation, school tuition, downpayment on a car or property, or diversifying one’s investment portfolio to include low-risk, high-yield investments.

    Land Bank MOA Signing

How to train your child to be a super saver

It’s something mostly everyone knows, but unfortunately grasp fully only later in life. To build wealth, saving is key—and you need to start as early as possible.

Whereas those with high-paying jobs or a successful business can easily be considered rich, true financial security comes from having a diverse portfolio of investments built up over the years.

But before one can even think about diversifying his or her income stream, one has to first build up the necessary funds, and saving is one of the most basic and effective ways to do this.

It’s never too late to start saving, but obviously, younger people have a clear advantage, because they have more time to accumulate more. A mindset of saving, and the discipline that goes with it, when developed in young children, will yield great returns that go well beyond financial benefits when they grow up.

Bank of Commerce, one of the country’s progressive banks, has launched a first-of-its-kind innovation that will not just encourage kids to save up, but will actually teach them how to make sound financial decisions--in a fun, easy, and readily accessible way.

Dubbed the Junior Smart Savers Savings Account, the first-ever kiddie savings account with a smartphone application or “app” (available for download for iOS and Android devices), that teaches kids and teens about money smarts. It features rewards, games that help kids learn more about saving, a virtual card for exclusive promos; tips that provide assistance for their savings account, and an “Ask Mom and Dad” corner that allows kids to create a wish list of items for purchase and share it with their parents.

Here are some nuggets of financial wisdom from the Junior Smart Savers app, to get kids in the mood and mindset for saving:

    • Get a piggy bank or other means of storage. Wallets might not be the best choice as they tempt you to spend money due to its portability and easy access.
    • If kids will hang out with friends, do something that doesn’t involve spending money. For example, go to the park, hang out at home, or play football.
    • If kids will hang out with friends, do something that doesn’t involve spending money. For example, go to the park, hang out at home, or play football.
    • Never buy food items you like with saved money. The treat will likely only last about 10 minutes, then its gone. And so is your money.
    • Resist impulse buying. Advertisers study buyers and buying habits all the time, and they have got some pretty clever ways to convince you that you must have something. They want you to buy right now. But if you stop to think, you might not buy.
    • Before buying something, ask yourself: Do I really need this item? If I don’t need it, why do I really want it? Is there any risk in delaying this purchase? Remember: Once you spend your savings on things you don’t need, it’ll be gone before you know it.
    • Don’t shop for entertainment. When you hang out at the mall, you see things that you don’t need. But because you see them, you want them.
    • Shop for gifts in advance, instead of the last minute. If you can’t find just the right thing, you might blow your budget on something else out of desperation.
    • Every amount counts. Pick up every little coin you see. No matter how much you spend—or save—it will make a difference in the long run.
    • When you start a savings account, be sure you don’t plan on taking out money right away. Don’t think this way. You should think about saving, and not taking money out immediately after it is created.

Bank of Commerce’s Junior Smart Savers account is available at all Bank of Commerce branches, with a minimum deposit of P200.00.

Bank of Commerce is one of the country’s progressive banks and has been in operation for more than 50 years in the Philippine banking industry. During the early part of 2012, Bank of Commerce launched its Sikap Pinoy Savings Account – an ATM Savings Account that requires no initial deposit and maintaining balance that is specifically designed for the OFWs and their beneficiaries. For over a year now, the bank has been opening at least 10,000 of these accounts per month – a natural remittance destination waiting to be serviced by Trans-Fast. Other than remittances intended for credit to accounts, Bank of Commerce agreed to service Trans-Fast’s cash payout either in Philippines Peso (PHP) or US Dollars (USD). All services will run on a straight-through process platform to provide the clients fast and efficient service delivery.

Bank of Commerce is a medium sized bank, ranked 16th among local commercial banks in terms of assets. To date, the Bank has 122 strategically located branches and 368 ATMs located in on-site and offsite locations bringing our brand of service closer to our customers.
