May 30, 2025As a strong advocate of “malasakit”, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and its affiliate Bank of Commerce (BankCom) contribute even in small steps to address issues that concern the community, environment and the nation. In the first quarter of the year, BankCom took active part in various actionable and sustainable programs of SMC’s social development arm, San Miguel Foundation (SMF). Blood donation drive BankCom volunteers understand the importance of having available safe supply of blood in saving lives. The Philippines approximately requires one (1) million units of blood annually to support the requirements of various patients in the country according to the Philippine Red Cross. The blood bank therefore encourages Filipinos to donate blood and help give a fellowman a chance to life. Heeding to this call, a total of 21 BankCom employees signed up for the nationwide blood donation drive facilitated by SMF in cooperation with the Philippine Red Cross. Fur Partner Day “Malasakit” extends to those with furs and paws. Human beings and animals co-exist harmoniously in this world after all! On the third year of SMF’s partnership with Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), 20 pet-loving BankCom volunteers travelled all the way to Capas, Tarlac to assist in feeding, petting, bathing plus getting to know the rescued cats and dogs being taken good care of at the shelter. Other BankCom employees donated monetary and in-kind donations such as pet wipes, treats, collar and other useful items that these furry friends can use. These donations were then turned over to AKF. This active participation does not stop there. The Bank’s volunteers will surely be part of more activations and programs in the days to come. BankCom strongly believes that good corporate citizenship is a foundation for an institution’s enduring legacy – a core value that the Bank espouses to its very own people. Hence, BankCom remains to be committed in championing positive involvement and showing up where and when it matters. Together with the other business units in the SMC group, BankCom will continue fostering “malasakit” for a better world.
